SewNowThis.com Info on sewing, needlepoint and textiles... Hat
Pins
Hat pins can be found in many antique shops and flea markets. These were actually purchased with a 'grab bag' of miscellaneous sewing things from an Ebay auction I won several years ago. The ends are pointed, but not as sharp as an embroidery needles or hand sewing 'sharps.' They are much longer than any straight pin. I use these old pins for a variety of things: For Needlepoint: I use them for laying, for guiding threads in a tight spot, and for opening a hole in a finished work for couching if the areas is too tight. For sewing: I used these before I found this tool to help guide in ruffles and gathers as I was feeding it into the machine so it wouldn't bunch up.
